Layoff announcements hit 50,702 in February, the highest since March 2010, Challenger, Gray Christmas, the international outplacement firm, reported Wednesday.
February also was the first month since May 2009 that there was a year-over-year increase in layoff announcements. (Note: Challenger bases its numbers on announced layoffs so actual cutbacks may be different.)
